It's not a matter of being on at the right time, mrsmodern convinces people to add a BIN price to auctions. I've only seen her do it with auctions that don't have any bids on them. In this case, the existing bids were canceled, the auction was closed early, and the item was relisted with her BIN price on it. This is a pattern I've seen on perhaps a half-dozen auctions, spaced out over a year.

Brad, what type of item was it? I've only seen six items in the Cane and Teak line. Is yours the trivet... roughly hexagonal in shape? The pictures I've seen of it are very pretty. It sounds like a nice score.

Thanks Mark. Even though the grinder was not by JHQ. It looks very well executed. Todd, I checked out the auctions you pointed out. It looks like the second listing ended in a but it now. I totally missed that one. I know that you need to be on Ebay at just the right time and you get lucky! Today I picked up a small Teak with bamboo inlay by Dansk with the ducsk logo. it is rather small, about 9" by 6". the bamboois warping a bit, but it still looks cool. It is the first one I have seen like it.

Nice, Mark. That matches up nicely with the picture. Did you both notice auction 170258505799 and then 170258723200? There were bids on the first auction, but I suppose they just got canceled before it was closed.

Hey Brad

I did not see that Australian auction. Good find. Looks like it was only up for a half hour - quick!

That is NOT a JHQ mill. The stamp says "Scanform Denmark". I have a photo in my archives of a pepper mill with a similar squat shape, a contoured bottom, Peugeot grinder, and the exact same mark that is 100% legible. Still might be worth $120, but not Dansk.

Great catch, Brad. I didn't see it, nor have I seen anything similar. The hole in the bottom looks like it could be what I call a plug fill, but Nissen had those, although they're primarily Dansk. The contoured bottom is unusual, but my Digsmed "Steampunk Man" has a similar bottom. I'll have to take a closer look when I get home!

Did anyone see the mill that closed on August 30th on Ebay from Australia? It was item 180283478050. Someone scored on the buy it now price. It has all the makings of a Dansk mill, but I know Nissen had some very highly refined designs. Any thoughts?

Take another look at that first mill ("Mushroom disguise" as I call it). I'm certain it is marked Peugeot, its just the details are obscured by artifacts from the JPEG compression level. I see the arrow that the lion is standing. The mill is common (as in top 33% of the styles listed on eBay), I think wig4554 just wanted to win it. He's new enough that I'm not sure he/she is a discriminating collector yet. ;-)

Oh, and the interesting thing about the Nissen mill: it doesn't have a Peugeot mechanism. Bodum got away from the Peugeot mechanisms later, but all of the other Nissen ones I remember had a Peugeot grinder. I'm not sure what that says for the vintage of this piece, but it's interesting.
