Earlier this week at a Wright auction in Chicago, a collection of 24 Jens Quistgaard mills went for $7,813. By my math, that is $325 per mill. That’s almost one share of Google stock. Wow. There were a few rare ones in the mix, most of the somewhat rare ones, and quite a few common mills. Unfortunately, in the photo you can’t even really see a few of the mills so it’s hard to say exactly what they had. But, it’s still a pretty impressive feat to sell this collector that much in this economy.

By the way, the Wright site has been redesigned and they seem to have done an amazing job – especially with the use of fancy AJAX web code and a little Flash. Check out the way the pages load as you scroll down (I wonder where they got this idea? Maybe here.) The super high res photos that you can zoom into are nice, but I wish they went AJAX with these, too, and you could navigate around the photos like Google maps. There’s still a few bugs (the lot number drop down does not change values when you use the previous and next buttons, for instance), but the site is very nice and makes browsing their auctions much easier.

these were mine and i have to say i was rather surprised with the result. my reserve was only 2400!

I have a vintage teak Dansk peppermill for sale. I am not sure of what it’s worth. Can someone help me?
