I got my scanner out for some more old Grateful Dead photos, but these are REALLY old. I did not take these. They were taken (probably in New York) by the late jazz photographer Raymond Ross. He used to live above the original Knitting Factory, and they were purchased directly from him in the late 80s.
I don’t know too much about the photos, but I doubt they have ever been published before. The first two of Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir were probably taken around 1967 or 1968 judging by the guitars and how long their hair is. The photo of the whole band was probably taken a few years later, maybe 1969, but no later than 1970. I only have the prints and they are a little messed up, but it’s time they were shared with others rather than sitting in a shoebox. Please let me know if you can fill in any info on the photos.
I have a few other ones – remember the piles of negatives?
