I wrote about this collection a few months ago and now it has appeared for sale at 1st Dibs for the price of $21,000. It’s an amazing collection, but here’s the big question: Is it worth as much as brand new Honda Accord? The math is pretty simple – with 70 mills it breaks down […]
The new (as of March) Paul Smith store in San Francisco is really amazing. Sure, it has Paul Smith clothing but it also has a great collection of new and vintage design goods which includes books, art, and a great collection of Danish Modern – especially Dansk teak and Lisa Larson ceramics. Accompanying all those […]
I heard from Dansk and it is true – they are reissuing 5 of Jens Quistgaard’s salt shaker pepper mill combos as part of their Wood Classics series. The new mills look pretty good, and there are several interesting differences between these mills and the originals. It sounds like Dansk channeled the spirit of JHQ […]
OK Los Angeles has posted some photos of what they claim are the new Dansk JHQ pepper mill reissues. Looks like the rumors might be true! According the OK, they are not quite as nice as the original mills, but better than the Thai mills produced towards the end of the run. They have ceramic […]
Due to popular demand, I have created some Danish Teak pepper mill shirts, featuring many of the most popular Jens Quistgaard designed Dansk pepper mills. I created two versions, one with the “Danish Pepper” logo and one without. Check out the designs in the photos below, but you can get them in dozens of styles […]
I found some evidence online that Dansk might be reissuing a few of their pepper mill designs by Jens Quistgaard. They have given them names: Jane, Rosie, Jack, Hank, and Audrey. It doesn’t look like they have released photos, but their distributors seem to have catalog listings. Can’t wait to see them!
I was alerted to an amazing photo from the Sam Kaufman Gallery in LA recently. Featured on Modernica’s blog, this is the most amazing pepper mill collection I’ve seen – he’s got many mills I don’t have and a few I’ve never seen. Even if they were all common mills, the way he’s got them […]
There’s a Dansk mill on eBay right now – one of rosewood and metal series – that will set a new record (at least as far as I’ve seen) for a Dansk pepper mill. The auction started at $795 and there is one bid, so it will sell. Let’s see how high it goes… While […]
Thanks to Teak Pepper reader Brad B for sending me these photos of a super rare, super crazy Nissen designed teak mill he recently acquired. Although Quistgaard’s mills are often referred to as “chess piece” mills, it was actually Nissen who marketed his mills as shaped like chess pieces. Most of them are roughly shaped […]
How It’s Made is one of my favorite TV shows. I like making things, and it’s great to see how things are really made – by people who actually know what they are doing. Their latest episode takes the viewer inside the Peugeot factory to show how they make their legendary pepper grinding mechanisms. It’s […]
