The Danish company Gubi is reissuing the Jens Quistgaard designed Stokke Chair. This is a very nice chair that was originally produced in 1965 by Nissen. The original used teak or rosewood and had multiple different leather options. The modern reissue uses black stained oak and black leather. This is a unique chair design because […]
I have a few pieces for sale on eBay that I thought some of you might be interested in, particularly a super rare Quistgaard magazine rack. I have two, and this one has to go. There’s also a super cool Lucite globe, some Danish candlesticks, a wire magazine rack, a wire glass server, a tall […]
As everyone who has seen the Jens Quistgaard documentary knows, JHQ designed an entire house for Dansk co-founder Ted Nierenberg and his wife Martha. The upstate NY home is an amazing structure in a dramatic location – and it is now on the market. Neierenberg passed away about a year ago, and apparently his family […]
Another big Wright auction came and went. On May 12, 2011 28 mills sold for $3,750, or about $133 each. Not too shabby. Looks like there’s a few cool Nissen mills, a GC Dansk mill, and the rest by JHQ, although not any super rare ones. Nice.
A few years ago, I designed a “murphy bar” for Ready Made Magazine which appeared in issue 32. The nice people at Ready Made took those designs, and a few others from that issue, and created cool blueprints you could buy to learn how to make them. Originally sold for $35, I have a few […]
There is a very long and detailed article about Jens Quistgaard in the Spring 2011 issue of Modernism Magazine. Written by Stig Guldberg – filmmaker of the “Saucepan for my Wife” documentary – the article is filled with information about Jens Quistgaard’s life and his design work. I have a subscription and just got the […]
I’m very excited about my colleague Lance Wilson’s new book: Beer. It combines many of my favorite things. Beer, photography, design, collecting, and beer. This beautifully photographed, super thick book is chock full of beautiful photographs of beer cans from all eras in all shapes and sizes. From the very first cans on the market, […]
I went to Palm Springs for a long weekend and kept finding myself without my DSLR whenever there was something cool to take a photo of. Thus, I decided to use Hipstamatic to take retro photos of some retro homes. There were some super dramatic clouds that day. The first group of photos are from […]
Most of the photos I’ve posted from our European journey were taken with my Canon DSLR, but I had a ton of fun taking photos with the iPhone 4 on the trip – both with and without the Hipstamatic app. The app creates retro filter affects to your photos. You could point it at just […]
My New Years Resolution is to finish writing about the trip we took several months ago, so I’d better get on with it… If you’ve seen the “Saucepan” documentary on Jens Quistgaard, you saw Benny’s antique store. After seeing the rooms full of JHQ’s designs, I had to visit it, so Henriette was nice enough […]
