I wanted to share some amazing photos sent to me from a reader in the midwest. He’s got an amazing collection of Quistgaard and other designers’ mills. The son of a industrial and graphic designers, he grew up on this stuff in the 60’s and says my book helped rekindle his appreciation. He also has a great collection of teak bowls, Kobenstyle cookware, and many other amazing things. His mills are displayed on 3 amazing ten foot long shelves, and well, it speaks for itself.
It’s interesting to me that he’s got almost 30 mills that I don’t have. Â Considering we each have quite large collections, it’s pretty amazing that I can’t duplicate about a third of his collection. There’s a lot of them out there!

Are all mills on top 2 shelves Dansk and bottom shelf by others, or are they interspersed?

Top left mill (sphere) is a Nissen.
Yep you are correct, was shot before I got it all organized by maker….now have 104 up on the shelves… đŸ™‚
Mark: Just got your great book on JHQ mills and was pleased to see one of the mills and a mortar and pestle I designed for Lauffer just after I graduated from college….Very cool…and also saw that a few made it into your amazing collection. Hi Dan,I came across what i think might be a pretty rare dansk pepper mill and would love to know what you think.I first went on ebay and of the 177 mills that were on none matched ours.I then googled quistgaard to better identify ift and found 2 places on this blog that had it.The one that we have is the one in the dead center of yout top shelf.Round ball on a tapered base with the wholes on the top of the ball and the tapered peg on top.Thanks for any info you can give us and hope its a rare one.
Help me out please. I have the mill that is sixth in from the left, on the top shelf. I am having a difficult time finding any info on it via the web. It was just recently brought to my attention that this mill is Jens Quistgaard FIRST design, circa 1958. Is this true? Would this be a rare mill? What type of value does it hold? Thank you very much.
Hi – I think that is indeed the 1st mill by Dansk. It is somewhat rare. As for value, I don’t like to quote those here but I have seen them go in the range of $500 on eBay in the past.

I have had one for some time, never knew it held any value until I went on line to find out more about who made it. Off and on for a couple weeks now I’ve being looking for the one I have, no luck until now. I have the 11th one in on the top row, the darker tree looking one. I was hoping you could help me with what kind of wood this is and a value ?

Beautiful and quite impressive. I have a few that are easily identifiable, but I also have the mill that is 15th from the left on the top row and have been unable to identify. So similar to another Quistgaard mill, but have found no reference to it. Any thoughts?
I’m seeing the pretty common “hamburger” shaped mill 15th from left on the top. Am I looking at the wrong one?

BTW, what threw me is that the only marks (on the metal) are a patent # and “Made In Denmark”.

I have one that you don’t have and I was hoping you could help me date it. It is a Nissen Denmark Peugeot Freres Lion Pepper & Salt mill in one, it is made of teak of coarse, but I cannot find any information on it, any help would be apprecitated.
